Phillies vs. Reds – 2/27

Live from Sarasota.

Shane Victorino has been named to Team USA’s roster for the World Baseball Classic after Grady Sizemore pulled out.

ed smith.jpgHere is the lineup for today’s game against the Reds at Ed Smith Stadium:

 1. Shane Victorino, CF
2. Jason Donald, 3B
3. Raul Ibanez, LF
4. Matt Stairs, DH
5. Greg Dobbs, 1B
6. Geoff Jenkins, RF
7. Pablo Ozuna, 2B
8. Ozzie Chavez, SS
9. Lou Marson, C

Pitchers: Drew Carpenter, Antonio Bastardo, J.C. Romero, Ryan Madson and Sergio Escalona. Chad Durbin had been scheduled to pitch, but he has sore right hamstring. He should be OK in a couple days.

Of course, the Phillies also released Adam Eaton this morning.

Ruben Amaro Jr. said he is cautiously optimistic Pedro Feliz will be ready to play Opening Day. Feliz has hit off the practice the last couple days, but it is unclear when he will take live BP. “He’s progressing well,” Amaro said. And Chase Utley? Amaro said he also is cautiously optimistic that Utley will be ready Opening Day, although he seems to be much further along than Feliz.

Amaro said Nomar Garciaparra is “likely to sign with the A’s or not play at all. I’m not sure whether he’s going to play or not. I would not view him as somebody who would be with us.”

Victorino hit a leadoff double and Ibanez followed two batters later with a double to left-center field to give the Phillies a 1-0 lead. … Carpenter got knocked out early. He allowed three hits, three walks and four runs to the six batters he faced. He did not record an out. Antonio Bastardo took his place and got out of the inning. … Dobbs singled and scored Donald from third in the third to make it 5-2. … Ozuna hit a solo homer to left-center field in the fourth to make it 5-3.

Pablo, Ozzie? Did they win a contest of some kind? Norma, you may have a chance to start a game next week too….LOL.

Is that photo from right now? I’m so envious – wish I could be there! Today is cloudy and very windy here in the Philly ‘burbs.
Rants, Raves, and Random Thoughts

I know it’s only early on in spring, but I think it’s terrific that Ibanez is hitting!

Victorino, with all that energy, is a great addition to Team USA!

Zo, did Drew Carpenter look as bad as the boxscore? Failing to get a guy out doesn’t instill confidence.

Carpenter is camp fodder. It would be nice to put a win in the column though. Just sayin’…

My parents and sister are at today’s game (I’m jealous!) Hopefully they will bring some winning luck to the team.

love that Bastardo name! Great to see Ibanez having such a good preseason. He seems like a real stand-up guy and a good fit with the team.

This Jayson Werth thing has me puzzled. When a team acts this way in the past, there is usually some type of hidden agenda, but Charlie is such a strait shooter, maybe it’s nothing. I guess my question is why just not give him a few AB’s. If it’s conditioning, hey we just ended a season three months ago. I know it was reported he’s hitting off the tee, but is he doing any fielding with any intensity?

jimmy…..LOL!!! I actually won’t be in Clearwater til 3/12. I was a little ahead of myself in that previous post.

But since I’ll be there during the WBC, they may need me on the field!

We soooo need Chase back!

If Ibanez keeps this up, he may become my second favorite player!
