Werth Is Scratched

Jayson Werth has been scratched from today’s lineup because he tweaked his right shoulder while taking batting pratice yesterday at Bright House Field.

“So stupid,” Werth said about the injury. “It’s something that didn’t have to happen, but it happened.”

Werth and Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said Werth would need a couple days to recover, so it doesn’t seem to be anything serious. Werth hadn’t played in the first three Grapefruit League games, which had many people wondering what was going on.

Werth said he had been held back for a few reasons: The shorter offseason. His offseason home in Springfield, Ill., isn’t exactly a great place to get a lot of work outside. “They were giving me a couple extra days to get my legs going, which I thought was kind of smart,” Werth said. “And the spring is so long this year. I think the last two springs I’ve gotten 30 to 40 at-bats. I want twice that this spring. I’ll be all right.”

John Mayberry took Werth’s place in the lineup.

Pat Burrell received a nice ovation before his first inning at-bat. He popped out to second baseman Miguel Cairo in shallow right field. … Shane Victorino singled to right in the first to score Jimmy Rollins. Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer to left to make it 3-0. Mayberry followed with a solo homer to left for back-to-back homers. Miguel Cairo also hit a solo homer to left in the first to make it 5-0. … Burrell doubled down the left-field line to leadoff the fourth inning. … The Phillies announced a Bright House Field record 10,270 fans today. The place was packed early. Beautiful day.

This has nothing to do with today’s game but I saw the following today online and wanted to share: Mets ace Johan Santana says that his opening day start could be in jeopardy as he continues to battle tightness in his elbow.

Deb….As I read your post, “Ain’t That Ashame” is playing on the radio. How appropriate! LOL!

What was crowd reaction to Burrell’s double?

They cheered him. Ryan Howard gave him a hard time when he got to second. I imagine he said something to him like, “Wow, you’re pretty fast.”

ha ha – thanks! it seems so weird that they’re opponents now

Guess it was easy to cheer Pat’s double, when we’re up 5 – zip. lol!

Nothing better than back-to-back HR’s!

Was there really a John in LA sighting??? Where the heck have you been, man?? Hey Norma, what oldies station you listening to when that tune came on the jam box?

That was fun to watch! Too bad I didn’t know it was being televised, so I only caught the last few innings. But the game will be repeated on CSN at 1:00 am, so I’ll record it and watch tomorrow. Thank God for DVR’s!
Jimmy……No oldie’s station. XPN. It WAS pretty funny!

Here is the tv/radio broadcast schedule for spring training & beyond: philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/schedule/broadcast.jsp?c_id=phi
So far it’s been accurate I think. Too bad no televised games until March 15 vs Cardinals. Even the games vs. US & Canada?

Nice to see the bats wake up. Great crowd, nothing like a nice sunny day laying out on the berm. I am so jealous. Norma, I figured you to be a Geator with the Heater fan. And really glad to see John back on line, missed his banter. Now I gotta go put gas in the snowblower for the impending storm, somewhat different climate up here than Clearwater. Todd, the logins have been lighting fast, tell the IT guys good job, we all appreciate it.

I’ll be at the next televised game! March 15th. Sec. 118, row 11. Just past 3rd base. I’ll be the one in red, diving for foul balls! LOL!

jimmy…..No *oldies* for me. Usually ‘MGK. I’m a Classic Rock girl!

Zo…..Has Chase been hanging in the dugout? Or is he busy rehabbing?
