Phanatic Meets the Simpsons

In case, you haven’t seen this: the Phanatic made a cameo in an episode of The Simpsons. Thanks to The Fightins. The 700 Level has the video.

Got a couple e-mails wondering why Chase Utley wore his socks up during a Minor League scrimmage Saturday at the Carpenter Complex. First, the Phillies require all Minor Leaguers to wear their socks up. It’s a uniformity thing. Major Leaguers are exempt from this rule in spring training, but Utley followed the program anyway.

“I didn’t want to stand out,” Utley said. “They were nice enough to let me play in their game, so I figured I would respect them and do what they do.”

The subtle gesture did not go unnoticed.

“It just shows his humbleness, if you would,” Phillies assistant general manager Chuck LaMar said. “It shows his respect for the game. He was here at one time. He’s a star because of the way he conducts himself. It doesn’t surprise me.”

Give Julian Tavarez an award for honesty. He had no job offers other than one from the Nationals. He explained his decision to accept a minor-league contract from them to The Washington Post: “Why did I sign with the Nationals? When you go to a club at 4 in the morning, and you’re just waiting, waiting, a 600-pounder looks like J-Lo. And to me this is Jennifer Lopez right here. It’s 4 in the morning. Too much to drink. So, Nationals: Jennifer Lopez to me.”

Hey, everybody! I’m your new teammate, Julian!

Chase is such a pro. No big-timing from the future MVP.

So Julian Taverez essentially signed with the Gnats because he was wearing baseball’s equivalent to beer goggles…nice!

I’m a Simpsons devotee. In fact one of the first words my son (he’s 15 now) said was “D’oh!” We were so proud!

That’s what I love about the Phils, no prima donnas. Everyone is a team player.

Loved Charlie’s bleeping comments about yesterday’s bleeping loss to the bleeping Yankees. Players better get their bleeping rears in gear opening day is not that bleeping far away.

When I saw The Simpsons on Sunday, I was thrilled to see a Simpson-ized Phanatic.
Although, the Phanatic doesn’t make that honking sound. Only the Capital City Goofball does that.
