The Sarge's Inspiration

Apparently I’m not the only one that has found Alyssa Milano inspirational.

Gary Matthews (aka The Sarge) is famous for his hats. In fact, he is so famous for them that he is coming out with his own hat line. New Era designs them. The Sarge approves them. People buy them.

The Sarge said they will be available at Citizens Bank Park and presumably online.

“Alyssa Milano inspired me,” he said Saturday.

Milano has her own baseball-inspired clothing line, and The Sarge had the chance to interview her last year during a Phillies broadcast. And as last season progressed, the Phillies started receiving more and more calls and e-mails about them. Apparently a light bulb went off.

After the game, you always saw them with a nice hat. A lot of them to this day when you see them they have a hat on. I’ve always been a hat guy, really. The only difficult time was when I had the afro. Then I laid it on top of my head. It was hard.”

The Sarge is selling both men’s and women’s hats, so the ladies won’t be left out. Each hat also has The Sarge’s signature, which is pretty cool.

It seems everybody is inspired these days. Ryan Howard almost decapitated two Phillies PR men a couple weeks ago when he laced a foul ball into the press box. The ball put a hole in the dry wall about 20 feet in the back of the press box. Howard eventually signed his handy work, and a t-shirt was born.

Hey Spada . . . whoops, Zolecki,

Thanks for this hard hitting blog entry on Sarge’s hats. It helped me slide through one minute of my day.

I was wondering, when will the Phillies ballgirls be putting together their annual swimsuit calender and if Scott Palmer is wearing Phillies boxers or briefs. Surely these are things the Phillies want us to know and you have permission to write about.

Those hats look awesome, Sarge gets cooler by the minute.

Could someone please explain to me why many people have such a snit when there’s a blog post about something that couldn’t be described as hard-hitting news? Isn’t a blog a place to put the things that wouldn’t necessarily rate its own news article?

In my opinion, The Zo Zone is a place to get news, analysis and get some off-the-wall stuff that fans might not normally get to see, hear or read about. Today I wrote a story about how the 25-man roster could look Opening Night: http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090322&content_id=4046736&vkey=news_phi&fext=.jsp&c_id=phi. But I also had blog posts about Sarge’s hats and a video of Utley and Rollins talking about Charlie Manuel’s bobble head. Why? Because it’s fun. And baseball is supposed to be fun, isn’t it? Isn’t that why we watch?

Todd, you’re doing a fantastic job, keep up the good work man. Depending on how these babies are priced, I may be interested. Although, I do believe there is a sarge-style hat giveaway…the Orioles game around fathers day, no?

Todd, you never have to apologize for anything you put on this blog. The variety and personal insight you give to this blog is the main reason I come to the MLB.com site to begin with. Why don’t you give us your prediction about how the Brewers will do this season. That’ll tick a couple of people off, but the rest of us want to know your predictions in regard to your hometown team. Keep up the great work!!!

I never even knew these existed until visiting the shop at CBP tonight during the Phillies / Mets July 4th game. I bought the jeff cap on the spot without even intending to spend money. They run $39.00. I received three separate compliments on my walk back to my seats in section 302. I’ve always been a hat guy, and it’s a great blend of classic fashion and team gear. Very good product.

Most of the time I don’t make comments on blogs, but I want to mention that this post really forced me to do so. Really nice post!point of sale

Admiring the time and energy you put into your site and in depth information you offer. It’s nice to come across a blog every once in a while that isn’t the same out of date rehashed material. Fantastic read! I’ve bookmarked your site and I’m adding your RSS feeds to my Google account.cityville help

Amazing blog! Is your theme custom made or did you download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few simple tweeks would really make my blog jump out. Please let me know where you got your theme. Bless you..

I desire will get large applause in bridal marketplace because the classic fashion and style is nonetheless quite significantly a pattern.

I do not even understand how I stopped up here, but I believed this submit was once great. I don’t realize who you might be but definitely you are going to a famous blogger in case you aren’t already ;) Cheers!

An insightful blog post right there mate ! Thank you for posting .

You immediately lost trust in the online booking site and
vowed never to use it again. Even though the son and heir of
the Mc – Iver Industries spent most of his days in bed and most of the nights expending the family
money on alcoholic liquids, girls, bets (mostly about alcoholic liquids and
girls), he looked surprisingly assured of his good grades and graduation in
this last semester. Recently I canceled my old page and opened a new one, and am still in the process
of adding everyone who was on my old account
(I have great friends; over 30 people from my old account
have found me, and have added me as a friend).
