Kendrick Is Out, Optioned to Minors

The Phillies have just optioned righthander Kyle Kendrick to Minor League camp.

He had been a candidate for the fifth starter’s job.

Kendrick, who Rich Dubee called the favorite for the job entering spring training, went 1-3 with a 9.20 ERA this spring and fell far behind J.A. Happ and Chan Ho Park. Carlos Carrasco, also a candidate for the job, remains in camp, but he is expected to start the season in Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Here is some of what Kendrick said:

“How am I feeling? At first I was upset, but I know what I need to do. I’m going to go down there and work on my secondary pitches. I’ll be back.”

“I see myself as a big-league pitcher.”

“I didn’t show my offspeed stuff early enough. It was a little erratic at times. It just needs to get better. I know I need to get better and the things I need to do . I’ll go down there with a clear mind and get better and I’ll be back.”

The Phillies also optioned Lou Marson and Brad Harman. … Jamie Moyer allowed eight hits, three runs and one walk in 5 2/3 innings in a Minor League game at the Carpenter Complex. He struck out three.

By the way, I’m now on Twitter and Facebook. I hope to use Twitter to get breaking news to you ASAP and Facebook to post stories, etc.

Good luck in Allentown, Kyle. Thank-you for 2007.
Hopefully you find some more pitches.

Tough break for Kyle, maybe the best thing for him at this point, he needs another pitch and some confidence. I’m with sully, he gave us some good innings in ’07 (and ’08) and I wish him the best of luck.

Kinda thought that might happen. I hope he can gain additional experience and pitches and be back w/the team later in the season or next yr. Best of luck to ya!

Sad to see. I really thought he would step up and win the job. I still believe he has what it takes to win at the big league level. Lets hope he takes this demotion the right way and learns how to get it together! The only bad part about being in the minors is that Jamie Moyer is not there with him.

He’s got to get his confidence back and the only way that will happen is with success. He’s not having any against Major League competition so he needs a step back. Hopefully they don’t lose him for good.

Yo, Todd!! The Mets have the best bullpen? What are you thinking?

Todd did pick the Phils to finish 1st🙂

Twitter and Facebook? What, e-harmony and weren’t working? LOL. Zo’s everywhere, a media conglomorate.

Nice start by Happ. Odd boxscore though because it says he gave up 2 runs, one unearned, but I see no errors by the Phillies. Also doesn’t have the NP. I wonder how may pitches Happ threw? Shutout innings by Condrey, Lidge and Eyre and Ibanez is still banging out doubles.

Edit: the final box has the errors. The first one I saw, which was after 8 innings, didn’t.

I’m baaaaack! Major computer problems. In fact, I now have a new one!

Hope Kyle gets his stuff back, and can be of help if we need him during the season.

And goody, goody! Another *friend* to add to Facebook! 🙂

Welcome back Norma. The comments in regard to Kyle’s being sent back are so much better that the ones under the article. I got upset and said so. When Mets fans blast ourplayers it’s expected, but when Phans are dissin’ what Kyle did for this team it’s unforgiveable. This site is where true fans seem to belong. Thanks Todd for sticking with the Phillies!

Funny . . . Zolecki and Murphy start up on Twitter on the same day. Can Martino be far behind?
