Welcome Back Jimmy and Shane; Myers Opening Day?

Jimmy Rollins and Shane Victorino are back after playing for Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Marcus Giles made a good observation this morning when he looked at the lineup card on the bulletin board inside the Phillies clubhouse:

“Wow, got the real lineup in there today.”

Yes, it is:

1. Jimmy Rollins, SS
2. Shane Victorino, CF
3. Chase Utley, 2B
4. Ryan Howard, 1B
5. Jayson Werth, RF
6. Raul Ibanez, LF
7. Pedro Feliz, 3B
8. Chris Coste, DH
9. Carlos Ruiz, C

Chan Ho Park starts against the Blue Jays in Dunedin, while Cole Hamels pitches in a Minor League game at the Carpenter Complex.

The pitching schedule for March 26 – April 1 has been posted in the clubhouse, and it looks more and more like Brett Myers could be starting Opening Night:

March 26: Carlos Carrasco.
March 27: Brett Myers
March 28: Jamie Moyer and J.A. Happ
March 29: Joe Blanton and Cole Hamels
March 30: Chan Ho Park
March 31: Myers
April 1: Carrasco

Rich Dubee said yesterday that Hamels could make his season debut April 10 against the Rockies in Denver. If this schedule holds true and if Dubee wants his Opening Night starter to pitch on a full four days rest, Myers, who is pitching March 31, would be in line to pitch April 5.

As one of my favorite lines from the movie “Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid”….”Who are those guys?”

Rollins? Victorino? Sounds familiar?

Glad to have them once again in Phillies red pinstripes.

Ah! The Usual Suspects. I feel relieved.

now comes the real spring training. The starters start, the pinch hitters pinch hit, etc. Let’s see the potential bench players in bench roles. Can Cairo pinch hit? Can Mayberry? Can Jenkins? the race for the 24th and 25th spot on the bench is on….

Here’s to hopoing the “every day” lineup comes out firing today and puts up some hits and runs to get the mojo flowing again.

That’s a pretty solid lineup. Ibanez at #6. Pretty hefty paycheck for a #6 hitter. But, you gotta break up the lefthanders I guess.

I wonder if Park is getting a real chance at the 5 spot. If he pitches lights out today he should take the lead, IMO.

I’ve heard all teh reasons for Park as a starter phan, but I like Happ. I think Park is ideal as an innings eater in the pen and as teh starter when we have double headers, someone can’t go due to minor injury etc. Happ hasn’t impressed me out of the pen. I don’t hold with the “too many lefties in rotation” BS

Boy…….That lineup looks sweet!

Karen….I say “Who are those guys” all the time. Didn’t realize it was from Butch Cassidy! LOL!

Ok, I love Ruiz – in fact he’s my favorite Phillies simply because I love defense. But why is it so hard for him to avoid hitting into a double play? Wouldn’t it be better for him to just strike out once in a while when there’s only one out (especially here, since Jimmy was going to be the next batter)?

I have no problem with three lefties in the rotation, f-i-j, especially if they are the best available. I was just wondering if there is a ‘real’ competition since the Phillies really signed Park for the bullpen.

It appears to be moot anyway, considering the way Park is pitching today (not very good). Plus they let Rolen and Wells steal bases. That’s been an ongoing problem all spring, although I don’t know if it is because of the pitchers or catchers. Maybe Todd can ask and chime in on the subject.

Is Dobbs still hurt? I haven’t heard anything about his for several days now. Todd or anyone else?

For what it’s worth, JRoll was the only US player to make the WBC All-Tournament team.

I guess, congrats to J.Roll, but what does that mean? Not more games I hope! LOL!

I like Park in the pen if it means being able to carry Majewski.

Norma, Truth told me to tell you to sign up for Zo’s Twittering. Said he cannot look away…

Truth, Twittering??? Please tell me your kidding! LOL!

Todd, is there something wrong with Mayberry? He hasn’t played since Sunday. Has he already been sent to the Iron Pigs?
