The Phillies today are playing the Nationals in their final Grapefruit League game of 2009.
I am excited about this.
Got here Feb. 12, leave for Philly tonight. Ready to get back and watch some games that actually mean something.

I know some people might find it hard to believe that anyone would want to get out of Clearwater and back to Philly. Having done the “road warrior ” bit myself (and nothing like a beat writer), I can imagine that sleeping in your own bed, not eating out all the time and braking the routine looks very good indeed.
NOw is the last cahnce to enter teh “Who will win the 25th man ” sweapstakes. You can also vote for the 11th and 12th pitcher game.
My bets: Cairo is 25th man
Koplove and Happ are teh 11th and 12th pitchers, Tascher and Mejewski to AAA
25th man…….Cairo? Maybe. I’m voting for Stairs. He can hit them out of the park.
11th and 12th pitcher……….Happ and Tascher.
Todd…..Packed yet???? Safe trip home!
Koplove already has been told he won’t be making the 25-man roster to open the season. If the Phillies don’t get Sheffield – I’d bet against it – I’m picking Cairo for the bench job (obviously) and Happ and Taschner for the two bullpen spots.
I am packed. I am ready. Let’s get this game over with.
25th man: Stairs (what the heck!?)
11/12: Happ, Tascher
Todd: why is J-Roll not playing? Thought he needed his at bats. Safe travels~
norma, Stairs is the 24th man. I figure, 8 starters and 12 pitchers. the other 5 are Dobbs, Coste, Brunlett, Stairs and Cairo
25th man: Cairo. Sign another RH bat to be ready at AAA!
Last pitchers: Taschner & Majewski;
Happ starts at AAA and is ready if a starter faulters.
Todd, yuo really think the team heads north with 3 lefties in the pen? Are they keeeping Happ on roster so as not to destroy his confidence totally or because they think he’ll actually be useful there?

sory for the multiple posts, my ‘puter had a bad hair moment
Great outing by Tascher: 1 inning, 2 runs, 2 hits 2 HR, 2 bbs, a wild pitch, oh yeah, and 1 K. Definately roster material…
Good news: Stairs, Feliz, & Howard went yar.
Bad news: Moyer got lit up (on philly.com someone said the HP ump wasn’t giving him the strike zone he likes)
great game by Feliz. 4/5 3 doubles and a HR, 2 runs scored and 3 rbi. let’s hope he keeps this up and then we won’t have to have Sheff bat for him while he plays the field as someone suggested (in jest I hope) on one of the blogs today
No surprise whatsoever that the day you want to get out of town is the same day that the longest game takes place! Bummer.
Last pitchers – Happ and Taschner.
If I knew the third team interested in Sheff, I could make a guess on the 25th man.
i think the phils should sign sheffield just on the basis that he has an agent with the name ‘rufus.’ todd, how great would it be to have to interview him once sheff started being sheff around the second week of may? you could begin every question with, ‘rufus…’
I don’t get Taschner making the team. Righty, lefty…I don’t care. Majewski had a good spring and has had major league success. After making the 5th starter decision based on merit, this makes no sense.
