Sheffield to the Mets

Gary Sheffield is not coming to the Phillies.

A team source said earlier they were out of the running for his services. And sure enough, the move is official: Sheffield to the Mets. Sheffield, who the Detroit Tigers released Tuesday, signed with the Mets because they could offer him more playing time. The Phillies source said the Phillies will move on and look elsewhere for help.

If they cannot find anybody via trade or through the waiver wire, Miguel Cairo is likely to start the season on the bench.

Thank you Mets, for keeping Ruben Amaro from committing another silly signing of an old player. I guess he doesn’t remember the disaster of the Phillies signing years ago of Danny Tartabull. Can’t wait to see Sheffield in right against the Phillies, missing an easy fly ball, having to roll the ball into the infield, and swinging and missing repeatedly at pitches from Hamels. Now if the Phils can just find someone to replace old man Cairo.

I would have like the Phillies to sign Sheffield, but when the Mets aer offering more playing time in the outfiled, then you cna’t blame him for singing there. And even with Swff, I still think the Philssa aree the best team in the NL East.

Danny Tartabull? What kind of a dumb-*** comparison is that? Tartabull was the Phils’ big off-season acquisition in 1997. They signed him for $2 million. And he was only 34 years old. Sheffield would have been less important (nothing more than a right-handed bat off the bench), much cheaper ($400,000) and much older (40). I’m not saying I’m losing sleep about them not signing Sheffield. I’m just saying these Flyers fans don’t know squat about baseball.

There were 402 comments under that article as of 10:35pm. Let me get this straight; The Mets told Sheffield that he would be the regular RIGHTfielder, which was the equivalent of stabbing Ryan Church in the back. Here’s the funny thing: Sheff had issues with Torre treating black players different than white players. What about a WHOLE organization that has successfully phased out ALL African American Players except Marlon Anderson in favor of LATIN players? And Marlon was listed as the most likely player to get cut. The Mets are stuck with him now!! If he gets benched because of poor performance, he can pull the RACE CARD and have a legitimate argument. There are going to be a lot of upset bench players on the Mets. I’m sure Jerry Manuel wanted him. He’s not the same player as he was 12 years ago and Jerry is about to find that out! KEEP SELF DESTRUCTING Mets!!!! GO PHILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You really make it appear really easy together with your presentation however I
in finding this matter to be actually something which I believe I would never understand.
It kind of feels too complex and extremely wide for me.
I am looking ahead for your subsequent publish, I will attempt to get the
dangle of it!
