Crisis Averted: Manuel Splits Up Left-handers

Charlie Manuel split up the left-handers in his lineup for tonight’s game against the Braves, which no doubt brings great relief to the masses.

Here is tonight’s lineup:

1. Jimmy Rollins, SS
2. Shane Victorino, CF
3. Chase Utley, 2B
4. Ryan Howard, 1B
5. Jayson Werth, RF
6. Raul Ibanez, LF
7. Pedro Feliz, 3B
8. Carlos Ruiz, C
9. Jamie Moyer, P

Manuel explained that he moved Victorino from sixth to second because he is 4 for 11 (.364) in his career against Jair Jurrjens. Werth is 2 for 6 (.333), and liked him in the No. 5 hole.

I personally like the idea of splitting up the left-handers, but I also understood Manuel stacking the left-handers Sunday on Opening Night. Against a dominant pitcher like Derek Lowe, I think Manuel was playing for the big inning during the first seven or eight innings, rather than worrying about the potential need for a rally in the ninth.

I don’t think its very surprising that Charlie has dicided to break up the lfefty’s in the lineup. Becasue Charlie as long as he has been manger of the Phils, he has twicked the lineup here and there depending on that night’s starting pticher. And I thinnk this mgiht be the first of many lineup twicks. And if Charlie wants to stack the lefty’s together in the lineup agaisnt a left handed ptichedr, I would not have a problem with that.

I hope that Charlie isn’t changing the batting order because of all the fan and “expert commentator” comments. Charlie’s gut feeling is usually what works. Everyone who thinks the Phils lost game 1 because of the three lefties in a row obviuosly missed Jason Werth’s RBI single batting from the #2 spot. If we had today’s line up on Sunday, we might have been the first team shut out this season. Until Charlies instincts betray him or his “luck” runs out, I’m going to trust every decision he makes this season.

I hope Charlie didn’t change the lineup because of all the negative comments from fans and so-called experts. Last year Charlie made countless “gut decisions” that were right on the money. He knows the team better than the players even know themselves, so I trust his instincts. Because he is a World F’n Champion Manager, I’ve decided that I’m going to give him every benefit of the doubt for this whole season. May the FORCE stay with you Charlie. GO PHILS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry about the double commenting. The first one disappeared from my screen. I can’t believe it still posted!

I’m acutally surprised that both Chase and Feliz are in the lineup. Charlie has said that he’s going to occasionally sit them early in the season. Especially when it’s cold. It can’t be any colder than it is today! And tomorrow’s game will be almost as cold. I can’t imagine they would sit out the Ring Ceremony game.

They won’t ever sit Feliz when Moyer is on the mound. They need that defense. Cole, on the other hand, might be a different story.
Nice defense by Howard on McCann.

I think some timely hitting might be in order right about now.

Phan52, any hitting would be nice! These guys are so predictable. Every year they start so slow, lets just hope they follow the same pattern all year. Slow(very frustrating)start, strong finish. Nice to see Howard get a couple hits though. He has such a hard time going from the grapefruit league to the start of the season. Lets hope he just keeps making contact, cause good things will happen!

Only 6 hits. And Chase and Ryan got 4 of them. Hope the bats warm up soon. I hate April baseball! Just kidding! Well, not really.
