Game Postponed, A Look at the HK Patch

hkpatch.jpgTonight’s Phillies game against the Nationals at Nationals Park has been postponed because of rain.

The makeup date will be announced in the coming days.

Phillies right-hander Joe Blanton will pitch tomorrow night in the series finale against the Nationals, meaning left-hander Cole Hamels, who had been scheduled to pitch tomorrow, will pitch Friday night against the San Diego Padres at Citizens Bank Park. Right-hander Shairon Martis will pitch for the Nationals.

Phillies catcher Lou Marson had been scheduled to catch tonight. It would have been his first start of the season and second of his career.

People have been asking how the broadcast schedule will work without Kalas. Here is what it looks like at the moment: Scott Franzke and Larry Andersen will be broadcasting all nine innings on the radio. Tom McCarthy will be doing play-by-play for all nine innings on TV. Chris Wheeler will provide color commentary for innings 1-3 and 6-9, and Gary Matthews will provide color commentary for innings 4-6.

The Zo Zone is on Facebook and Twitter.

If they have 3 announcers then can’t just 2 of them do the entire game and then a different 2 do a game tomorrow. That is how the Mets do it.

The patch near the heart is a nice touch, but a black armband is more classy and a better look. (The Tug/Pope patch was more creative, too).

I understand why the patch is over the heart. But I agree, I think a patch on the sleeve, like Vuk’s last year, would have looked nicer. Wonder if they asked the players where they wanted it.

I’d love to see Franzke and LA in the TV booth! But I don’t think that will ever happen. I’m sure the Phils probably hired T-Mack last year, to prime him for Harry’s job. Who knew he’s get it so soon. 😦

I too would love to see LA & Franzke on TV. Not enough folks get to hear them on regular basis and I think they have great chemistry.

Also agree with others about the patch. I understand the sentiment, but I think the arm band would be more pronounced and look better.

Nice for Cole to get the start for Friday’s game. I hope he’s back to his usual King Cole self on such a special evening.

I agree with metsgo. We should do it like the Mets because, ya know, they do everything right. Like that play I just watched on ESPN where everybody on the Mets were in the wrong position on defense and let the Padres score a run. Can you say, ‘cutoff man’?LOL!!!

I also agree…. L.A. and Scott on TV.

I always thought L.A. and Scott *Graham* would be the perfect successors to Harry and Whitey. I’d love to see Scott Graham come back. Franzke is good though.

Harry’s son Todd used to do braodcast work for the Phils. It’d be cool to see him come back in some capacity. L.A., Graham, Franzke, and T. Kalas…. would be perfect for me!

I might be in the minority here, but I think Larry Andersen’s style works much beter on radio than it did on TV. And his chemestry with Franske its great. They should stay on radio. As far as the TV crew, I would’ve l,ike to see them pair McCarthy, Wheeler, and Matherws together in a three man booth for the whole game. But from what Todd wrote, it seems like McCarthy, Wheeler, and Matherws are going to be pairred together in the 6th inning. Which is fine with me.

I heard Todd Kalas in an interview this morning and they asked him if he would ever be interested in working for the Phillies. He pretty much hedged on the idea. He said that he couldn’t be happier with his current position, but that he has a real connection to Philly since he grew up here, and because of the outpouring of affection that his family is currently receiving from the phans. He is not looking to move but he did not rule it out.

Here’s a link to the latest column in the NY Times by former Phillies Doug Glanville. Gives you another insight into Harry K. I highly recommend reading his columns. They’re excellent.

Personally, I love the Franske/LA dual. There has been alot of commentary about who will replace Harry. Personally, I believe that bringing in an established vet will look like the Phils are trying to prolong the Harry years, which we all know, can’t be done. As sad as it is, the Harry era is now over. I’d love to see the Phils bring on Franske start a new era.

Todd (or others) – What happened to Graham? Was it a disagreement with him and Harry or with the organization as a whole?

Secondly, any chance that the Phils start a tradition of “High Hopes” at some point during all home games? I’d love to see the Phils start some traditions that are present at places like Wrigley, Fenway, etc.

I htink the replacement for Harry is already in palce, Tom McCartrhy. They signed him to a petty long term contract before last season. I beleive it was a five year deal. And I remenber Harry when the deal for T-Mac was announced, that he never got a contract longer than 3 years with the Phillies. So, that told me, that wink wink T-Mac is the guy. I personaly like T-Mac. I think he has done a petty good job transitionning from Radio to TV play-by-play.
