Hamels Survives

Cole Hamels appears to have broken the hex.

He threw six innings without incident tonight against the Braves at Citizens Bank Park, allowing just three hits, two runs and two walks. He struck out seven. He retired the first 11 batters he faced, losing the perfect game and the no-hitter when Chipper Jones reached on an infield single with two outs in the fourth inning.

The Phillies hope this gets Hamels on track after he suffered injuries to his left elbow, left shoulder and left ankle the last couple months.

Shane Victorino had his career-high 16-game hitting streak snapped. He went 0 for 4. He hit .352 (25 for 71) with five doubles, two triples, three home runs, 15 RBIs and 16 runs scored during the streak.

Jayson Werth has homered in four of his last five games. He is hitting .417 (8 for 17) with four homers and 10 RBIs in that stretch.

A fan ran onto the field in the top of the sixth inning. He jumped onto the field somewhere along the right-field line, ran toward second base and actually slapped hands with third baseman Pedro Feliz before security got close to him. The fan then looked like Terrell Owens, splitting the secondary and running all the way to the right-field fence. He darted toward center field before finally getting tackled.

The guy broke a couple tackles. Sign him up!

“That was probably the most impressive one I’ve seen so far,” Hamels said. “He didn’t just give up. He was good. I’ll give him credit. If run onto the field, you better last a long time. Don’t just give up.”

Great game. But the absolute funniest thing, was that fan on the field! There were about 8 security guys chasing him, and like Todd said, the guy just kept running and ducking. It took them forever to finally get the guy. LOL! I watched my recordin gof the game, and they didn’t show the guy at all! Just kept talking about it. Very lame. Guess there’s a rule about not putting it on TV, so that it wouldn’t encourage other fans to do the same thing. All the players were cracking up. And the fan lost his sun glasses running around the field. Chase picked them up, flipped them to Werth, and Werth threw them into the crowd! LOL! Priceless!

During a rain delay against the Mets at CBP last year, a fan ran on the field and eluded the security guards for a while. Just as they were about to catch him, he crawled into the tube that they use to roll up the tarp. He re-appeared a minute or so later at the other end of the tube, where the security guards were waiting for him. He was escorted off of the field to a standing O. Best rain delay entertainment ever.

This guy got a standing O, too! LOL! It actually helped Cole out. He had a little time to re-focus, and got out of a jam.

While that idiot was running around on the field, Hammels had to stand and wait. I guess it wouldn’t have been as funny if Cole got lit up or pulled a muscle when the game restarted.

No, it would not have been as funny if Cole while waiting for this dope to get run down by security got injured again or gotten rocked by the Braves in that inning. But thank Goodness Cole was able to keep himself togetehr after all that none sense to pitch a great game. Nice to see Cole pitch like the old Cole last ngiht.
