Victorino Is In Second Place In Final Vote

victorino 060307.jpgThis is a surprise.

Shane Victorino is trailing San Francisco third baseman Pablo Sandoval in the National League’s Final Vote for the final NL All-Star roster spot. Dodgers outfielder Matt Kemp, Diamondbacks third baseman Mark Reynolds and Washington’s Cristian Guzman trail Sandoval and Victorino.

I said last night that I thought it would be a two-horse race between Victorino and Kemp because Reynolds and Guzman won’t have the fan support and because Sandoval might not have enough name recognition outside the NL West.

So, naturally, Sandoval leads.

Fans can vote until 4 p.m. ET Thursday at MLB.com. Updates are expected daily.

Raul Ibanez went 0-for-2 with a walk and run scored in a rehab appearance for Double-A Reading. He made only one play in left field, but came out of the day OK. Reading hits the road tomorrow, which means Ibanez could continue his rehab assignment tomorrow with Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

The Phillies have optioned left-hander Jack Taschner to Lehigh Valley.

The Phillies designated him for assignment Friday. They explored opportunities for him to pitch elsewhere in the Majors, but once they could not find one they optioned him instead. The Phillies could have outrighted him to the Minors, but because he has more than three years of service time that would have meant taking him off the 40-man roster. If they had done that, Taschner could have declared for free agency.

Well, I’ve voted at least 100 times today while on conference calls. And it was more productive than the drone I had to listen to…LOL!

I know the Phillies have had success bringing in players from the thrash heap, but I never knew what they saw in Taschner. He lived up to my expectations.

Jimmy, need to talk to you about non blog business. e-mail me at jeff.gross@idt.net please

thanks

Todd, Victorino is second to Pablo Sandoval for one reason only. Sure, you’re right about the small market in San Fran. I too felt Vic’s only competition in this was Kemp because of LA being so high on the map. But, Joe Morgan mentioned how Sandoval deserves a shot at the All-Star Game on Sunday Night Baseball last night. I guess ESPN beat myphl17 (T-Mac made a pull for fans to vote for Shane during yesterday’s game.)

Todd, I know when you posted this but how fresh are the figures upon which you relied?

I too took the time from my work day to vote for the Flying Hawaiian :-) It would be nice to also have him as part of the NL team. So glad Howard was chosen as a reserve player. It kinda makes up for being snubbed last year. Plus his defense has really been SO much better than in years past (i.e. yesterday’s diving grab in the 3rd inning w/a flip to Blanton).

Zo, is there any doubt that Vic will be Beltran’s replacement on the all-star roster? So, does this vote even matter?

I have gone to the Blue Jays site and told them I am voting for Adam Lind, which I have been doing, and asked them to vote for Shane. I encourage all here to do the same.

Hey Phillies fans its a deal. I voted several hundred Times for Lind and did the same for Victorino. Lets work together and get both guys in the game!

The Skyin’ Hawaiian strikes again! “The Natural” is returning to form!! 2-run jack in the first. Hamels pulls a post-season-Brett-Myers with a two-run double. J-Roll is on a Roll!!! Cuerto’s upto 49 pitches. Maybe they’ll leave him in for 100 pitches no matter what. Something clicked during that sweep of the Mets last weekend. I can’t remember the last time the Phils gave Cole so much run support early in a game. This teamlooks like it can win a lot of games without Raul.

OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!!!!!!!!!! 3-run blast by Chase!!! He could actually hit 40 homeruns this season!!! Too bad there’s no 10-run rule in MLB.

This could be what Cole needs. They haven’t been scoring runs for him and he can relax and get straightened out. He’s gotta stop giving up long balls though. He must be tipping pitches because they seem to guess pretty well on his fastball.
