Charlie Picks Vic to Start

Charlie Manuel just announced his starting lineup for the National League:

  1. Hanley Ramirez, SS
  2. Chase Utley, 2B
  3. Albert Pujols, 1B
  4. Ryan Braun, RF
  5. Raul Ibanez, LF
  6. David Wright, 3B
  7. Shane Victorino, CF
  8. Yadier Molina, C
  9. Tim Lincecum, P

Victorino is starting in place of Carlos Beltran, who is out with an injury. Jayson Werth took Beltran’s spot on the roster, and Victorino took his spot in the lineup.

A front office official said yesterday he considered Kyle Drabek, if not the best pitcher, one of the top three pitchers at the All-Star Futures Game.

What are the odds of all 5 Phils playing at the same time?

It would mean Charlie taking Poo Holes out of the lineup before Victorino or Ibanez, which seems pretty unlikely. I don’t know how the hell he’s going to deal with having 4 first-basemen, since Poo deserves to play the longest of any starter.

Chollie has a pretty good stable of pinch hitters with those first basemen. They don’t necessarily have to play in the field.

While being the manager for your league is an honor (not to mention meaning you at least got to the WS), I think it also has to be a major league PIA. You can’t look too biased towards your guys, but at the same time you can’t damage your relationship with your players. You can’t take advantage of it to benefit your team (say, leaving one player in all game from the team you face right after the break) either. And of course now it determines who has homefield in the WS. Man, what a thankless job….
