The Great Gazoo

SHAAAAAAANE.png“It’s not the first time I’ve been called Gazoo.” – Shane Victorino.

Victorino tried the new Rawlings S100 batting helmet in his first two at-bats during last night’s 2-1 victory over the Giants. The helmet is said to withstand a 100 mph fastball. It’s also huge (some might say ginormous), which has generated many Great Gazoo/Dark Helmet/Marvin Martian references in recent days.

The verdict?

“I gave it a run,” Victorino said. “David Wright gave it a run. Ryan Dempster gave it a run. It was fine, other than it was rather large. I just thought I’d try it. They called me Gazoo. I don’t think too many people are going to wear it. The girth of that thing. I don’t think anybody is going to wear it because it’s so big.”

Chase Utley said “not at this point” would he wear the helmet.

“I understand the protection factor,” said Utley, who leads the Majors with 19 hit by pitches this season and 93 since 2006. “I’m not really ready to make the switch. It’s a little big and a little heavy.”

How can they see around the darn thing?! It makes Vic look like a Little Leaguer.

muleman……As for the play-off games….I’m compulsively early, and always at CBP at 5:00, too! LOL! How about meeting at the park, or McFaddens?

Anyone else going????

I remember Sarge used to flip off the helmet on his way down to first after a base hit. Flipping that thing off could break someone’s foot.
Bicycle helmets are huge too, but on two occasions they’ve saved me significant head trauma. Some would say I never fully recovered.
norma: Either one. We can figure it out. I don’t get much use out of McFadden’s. It’s always so jammed full of people before and after games. It’s too small, and as ballpark amenities go, it’s almost a good idea. :)
I still have 4 more games to go to this season! I hope the last two are meaningless.

I agree about McFadden’s. Although it can be fun on occasion. The ballpark it is!

Which Season Tic plan do you have? I have *A*. 3 games left, but I also have tix to another game. Plus going to DC on Tues. to see the Phils play the Nats. I’m sure Red will dominate the stadium! LOL!

We have “C” I think. We also bought some extra games. We have September 11, 15,17, 28 and October 2.
Other than the Citi Field trip last week, I didn’t get to any out-of-town games. I usually go to an Orioles game or two, but I bought the MLB package for my TV so I just watch them at home!

I feel like an uninvited guest here….sorry to interrupt

erichh1: No worries, mate. Let’s schedule a playoff gathering!

We’ll be going on the 11th and 15th, too. Maybe we should have a pre-playoff gathering! Anyone else interested?
