Who's Your Daddy?

It’s the Yankees vs. Pedro Martinez in Game 2.

Who’s your daddy? We’ll find out.

Here is what the Yankees had to say about Martinez facing his nemesis:

Johnny Damon

“Five years ago, Pedro and I accomplished something awesome. We get to face each other in the World Series. Only one of us is going to be the winner, and hopefully it’s me. I’m sure it’s going to be crazy, but our fans are going to be behind our team so they’d like to rattle Pedro. But I think Pedro has said it time and time before that a kid coming from where he grew up in the Dominican Republic, he’s able to have the world focus on him. He’s definitely come a long way since he started playing baseball.”

Does he think Pedro will thrive in this situation? “Let’s hope not. Pedro knows how to handle himself. Pedro was the best pitcher in this league for many years. He knows what it takes to be in the spotlight. He’s thrived in the spotlight before. Our job is to try to beat him. The way he pitched against the Dodgers, he looked pretty special. That’s not what we want to say.”

Does he think the ‘Who’s your daddy?’ chants bothered him? “I don’t think so. I think Pedro knows how to be dominating out there. He knows how to rise to the occasion. He feeds off of it.”

Jorge Posada

“Hopefully, we get to him like we did with the Red Sox.”

Derek Jeter

“Is he pitching Game 2? He’s always enjoyed playing here and pitching here. He’s had success here, too. I’m sure he’s looking forward to it. He’s always been a challenge for us, whether it was Boston or the Mets. He enjoys being in the spotlight and pitching in these games and he’s always been tough and I’m sure he’s going to be a huge challenge for us.”

What comes to mind when thinking about facing Pedro? (Laughs) “A lot of things come to mind. Some things I can’t say. He’s a competitor. He’s a guy when we were facing Boston all those years, he’s a guy that you looked forward to facing. You didn’t want to do it, but you looked forward to facing him because he was a challenge. Pedro is going to go down as one of the best pitchers to ever play this game. What he did, especially for the Red Sox all those years, we had a lot of battles with him. You always look forward to that challenge, even though it’s a tough challenge.”

This is what I have been waiting for since they signed Pedro. This is why he wanted to come back and I know he will be up for it. Whatever happens, it will be great theatre, but I am convinced that Pedro vs. AJ Burnett is a mismatch that will shock the baseball world. Gotta be the hottest ticket of the year in sports.
The Phillies may very well come back home up 2-0.

You expose yourself as a novice fan the more you talk. How is that a mismatch in Phillies favor? The Yankees have owned Pedro his whole life. What makes you think he’ll do any different this time? Beyond Cliff Lee, the Philshave no one that can contain this lineup. If Burnett just pitches decent, with his stuff, Yanks will have no problem in that game. All you Philly fans crack me up man. You see one of your ladies arrested for offering sexual services for WS tix? ahahahaha
Susan Finkelstein. Look it up. How bout the cover of the daily news with Victorino in a skirt? Lol, the rest of the league might kiss your behind, but New York is in no way impressed. This has been a long time comin for the Phils baby. Can’t wait.

tcd133, you are the ignorant one. Two things: (1) Pedro is a very different kind of pitcher than the one who last faced the Yankees in the playoffs. He’s more of a finess pitcher and much more precise in his locations. This old goat will kick the Yankees’ a$$es! (2) Sabathia is NOT pitching better now than he was pitching at the end of last year (11-0), yet the Phils crushed him in the ’08 NLDS. The Phils’ patience at the plate wore him out. As for the Angels, they swung at a lot of pitches out of the strikezone. The Phils will work Sabathia’s pitch count up to 100 by the 6th inning. Then, the Phils will reward Girardi for his ALCS concerns about his middle relievers and pummel JABA the HUTT and Hughes. Oh, that’s right. I forgot that simply wearing the Yankees pinstripes and showing up for the World Searies guarantees a victory. You’re right; we’re all ignorant fans….

tcd133 You better start worrying about who on the Yankees can contain the Phillies, don’t you think? Being successful in the AL is nothing to write home about. So you read the Daily News? Didn’t we tell you Hooked On Phonetics would help you with your problem?

tcd133: Your fun?!? Is the cover of NY Post cover the best NY can dish out?

Let’s hope Mother Nature doesn’t wash out tomorrow night’s game. Forecast not looking too good.

Actually it was the NY Post, which has a reading level of about a second grader, so no wonder tcd brings it up.
tcd, don’t get me wrong, the upstart Yankees are a good team. But they are not the World Champions. I expect them to put up a good fight, but I’m not worried about the likes of AJ Burnett or the ‘roiding cleanup hitter.

karen, the Yankees are praying there isn’t a rainout because they only have three starting pitchers. If they play Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, then CC the overpaid horse can’t go 1,4,7. Not that it would make any difference.
