Moyer Honored

Meant to mention this yesterday …

Clearwater for Youth recognized Jamie Moyer and The Moyer Foundation at a news conference for their work. This is the 10th anniversary of the foundation, which helps children in severe distress.

“We had no idea where we were going to go, or where it was going to take us,” Moyer said. “Our initial goal and our continued goal is to make a difference in communities and with kids in less fortunate situations.”

The foundation will have 36 camps in 26 cities this summer, including one in Toronto.

“We keep moving forward with it, and we’re happy about that,” Moyer said.

Moyer said he still wants to have a camp in every Major League city, and he said that could happen by next summer.

Thanks, Todd, for highlighting this and congratulations to all involved in The Moyer Foundation. Many give of themselves to make this dream a reality for countless kids and their families during a time of profound loss. I was blessed to be able to help this past summer as a Cabin Big Buddy at Camp Erin Hawaii and got to see first-hand how The Moyer Foundation and Hospice work hand-in-hand to help families through the grieving process. Little did I know how much I needed it myself (father’s death/own cancer experience). I cannot recommend it highly enough — consider getting involved — you won’t regret it!

It’s been great to watch Jamie battle back when he just as easily could have said enough already after losing the starter spot, enduring injury and the surgeries. So many seem to think that’s what he should have done (give up and get out of the way) but this attitude inspires many, motivates others and helps a team stay in contention. If there is something in baseball that can top a WS ring for you, Jamie, I trust you will get to experience it this season. You and your family are very special.
