Phillies Claim Figueroa
The Phillies have claimed right-hander Nelson Figueroa off waivers, the team confirmed.
He is expected to join the Phillies, which means they would need to make a roster move upon his arrival. It is unclear when he will join the team, but he likely would be the team’s long man. Andrew Carpenter currently holds that role.
The Mets designated Figueroa for assignment over the weekend.
Figueroa went 3-8 with a 4.09 ERA in 16 games (10 starts) last season for the Mets. He had a 4.61 ERA in Spring Training.
Figueroa went 4-5 with a 3.94 ERA in 19 games (13 starts) for the 2001 Phillies. He originally joined the Phillies in the July 26, 2000, trade that sent Curt Schilling to the Diamondbacks for Travis Lee, Vicente Padilla and Omar Daal.
