Ransom Up, Bocock Out

The Phillies selected infielder Cody Ransom‘s contract today. They designated infielder Brian Bocock for assignment.

The Phillies hope Ransom is here before the game.

It’s funny, but when news first broke about Chase Utley and Placido Polanco, the thing fans seemed most concerned about — nevermind Utley and Polanco were lost for weeks — was why Bocock got called up instead of Ransom. The explanation: Ransom had been bothered by a balky knee, which forced him to DH a few games. The day the Phillies called up Bocock, Ransom had been scheduled to see a doctor. The Phillies were not going to call up Ransom not knowing if he was healthy.

He is healthy, so now he’s up.

Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins, Jayson Werth, Raul Ibanez and Shane Victorino are 5-for-35 this week against the Pirates. Wilson Valdez, Dane Sardinha and Greg Dobbs are 7-for-20.

I know everybody want to see the Phillies make a move to fill the hole left by Utley and Polanco, but the big guys need to pick it up. Daniel McCutchen was 0-3 with an 11.00 ERA before he beat the Phillies on Thursday. Ross Ohlendorf had gone 16 consecutive starts without a win until Friday.

The Zo Zone is on Facebook and Twitter. His Phillies book “The Good, The Bad, & The Ugly” is available online, and at Delaware Valley bookstores!

Hey, why shouldn’t the call-up’s be injured too? That way, they fit right in with the rest of the roster.
The injuries this roster has make that “balky knee” look like eye strain.

Any idea on what what up with Shane and the bullpen after that nice catch ended the 8th? Shane wears his heart on his sleeve, of course…which is how people say “he’s kind of a dick” about people they like.
