Polanco Set to Have Cortisone Injection

Placido Polanco gets some much needed rest tonight at Nationals Park.

He could get a much needed shot in the next few days, too.

Polanco has been playing with a bone spur in his left elbow and tendinitis in his left arm for much of the season. Polanco, who said they have affected him at the plate and in the field, will receive a cortisone injection to improve his health for the postseason. It will be his third shot this year.

The injection only is delaying the inevitable: surgery in the offseason to remove the bone spur and remove scar tissue that has caused the tendinitis. But he hopes it helps him feel better while he plays.

“Sometimes I’m grabbing the bat for so long that it gets tired and weak,” Polanco said of his left arm. “Even holding my glove.”
