The NLDS Roster

The Phillies just announced their NLDS roster.

Greg Dobbs, Domonic Brown and Antonio Bastardo are ON. Kyle KendrickDanys Baez and David Herndon are OUT.

Here is how it looks:

  • Pitchers (10): Roy Halladay, Roy Oswalt, Cole Hamels, Joe Blanton, Brad Lidge, Ryan Madson, Jose Contreras, J.C. Romero, Chad Durbin and Bastardo.
  • Catchers (2): Carlos Ruiz and Brian Schneider.
  • Infielders (7): Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Placido Polanco, Wilson Valdez, Mike Sweeney and Dobbs.
  • Outfielders (5): Raul Ibanez, Shane Victorino, Jayson Werth, Ben Francisco, Ross Gload and Brown.

The Phillies obviously feel with Halladay, Hamels and Oswalt they do not need 11 pitchers, which cost Kendrick a spot. Dobbs could provide insurance should something happen to Rollins, who missed most of September with an injured hamstring. If Valdez had to play, the Phillies would have nobody to backup Polanco or even Utley.

Great lineup. I believe the difference between this year and last year is that the Phillies are deeper. They have a better bench that has already helped them through the injuries.

Can Jamie Moyer be in uniform in the dugout? Even while out he has been an inspiration to the team, and is always one of the first to congratulate the team on field after wins. This will probably be his last year, and I’d like to see him be with the team for the playoff run.

David Wambold

Herndon faded fast. He earned a spot in the spring but couldn’t keep it up.
With Gload and Sweeney they have a better left/right bench than they had last year. I hope they get a chance to DH.
It seems like a long time since they’ve played a meaningful game. This thing can’t get started soon enough.

vabeachfan, I agree with what you posted about Jamie.

Kyle pitched well in his last two outings. He was left off the roster a year ago and rightfully so. This year he was the victim of the Phils going with one fewer pitcher. He shouldn’t take this seriously and I hope he will be on the NLCS roster, assuming the Phils make it that far. He has pitched well each time his job was on the line and I think he would do well in the playoffs if given a chance to come out of the pen.

Wow, Just read a post that Roy Halladay was going to “out” himself before game 1. Doesn’t seem like a great idea but like PhallusPain always said, We’re here we’re ***** and nothing’s gonna stop us. Do you guy’s have a gay reliever in case Roy’s “coming out” party doesn’t work out?

Guess you can’t say qu**r on a Phillies website, go figure.

erich, they shouldn’t need Kendrick at all in the NLDS because they are only going with three starters and Blanton would be the long man, if necessary. I suspect that when/if they get to the NLCS that Kendrick would be back on the roster because he would then be the long man. At that point, the decision would probably be between Dobbs and Brown.

I thought those eligible for the post season roster includes all of those on the 25 man roster and those on DL as of August 31. Dobbs wasn’t recalled until September 3. How can he be included?

That’s true, pherris. He was DFA in August, not put on the DL. I don’t know how they worked that out.

He probably takes Moyer’s place since Moyer is on the DL.
