Remain Calm

cody ross.jpgA couple stats for you:

Teams are 52-28 when taking a 1-0 lead in the LCS.

They are 35-4 when taking a 2-0 lead.

Those are not comforting numbers for Phillies fans, but they are no reason to panic. They only mean Game 2 tonight is huge. If the Phillies win Game 2, it’s even. And teams that take a 2-1 lead in the LCS, which the Phillies would have the opportunity to do if they even the series tonight, are 43-17.

And think back to the last time the Phillies played a seven-game series. They took a 1-0 lead against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium in the 2009 World Series. I recall some nervous Yankees fans following that Game 1 loss to Cliff Lee, but the Yankees outplayed the Phillies the rest of the World Series.

The Phillies certainly have the ability to do to the Giants what the Yankees did to them.

Of course, they will need to hit Jonathan Sanchez, who is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in two starts this season against the Phillies.

“Usually we win Game 1 and find a way to lose Game 2,” Jimmy Rollins said. “Now we have to find a way to win Game 2 and go back out to San Francisco. We don’t get afraid of playing on the road. We’ve won on the road. We’re comfortable there also. So we’ve just got to make sure we get even tomorrow because you don’t want to go down 0-2.”

Quote of the night from Tim Lincecum about the catcalls he got from Phillies fans: “I was thinking I must have a really nice butt. But I heard a lot of them. It kind of hypes you up a little bit. You’re fighting a lot more than the Philly team. It’s the whole Philly atmosphere.”

Todd, Todd, Todd, if nothing else we can count on you to find some obscure statistic….to what?….brighten our day?….sadden our day? I am sure you can find a better use for your time. How about this, what year did both the Philadelphia Phillies and the Philadelphia Athletics have triple crown winners in their respective leagues? Now, there is a statistic for you. To paraphrase Harry Truman, the only thing new is the history you don’t know.

Its the small things that change the game. A bad call by the Home plate ump, and dropped ball by the right fielder turning a 3d out into a double by our former right fielder and that’s the ball game.Let’s hope Oswalt is up to stuff tonight and our hitters come ready to hit. We NEED TO WIN!!!

Oh Geez, You guys are snivelling about bad calls now. You have had bad call go your way all season and NOW your whining. Oswalt down in flames tonite. Maybe you guys should make some more of those ridiculous signs. Maybe spidey isn’t busy tonite.

Well Todd, the LCS used to be 5 games. It’s only been a 7-game series since 1985, so what are the numbers in a 7-game series? Certainly, a 2-0 lead in a best of 5 is significant.

billreef: Shouldn’t you be doing your Christmas shopping or something?

f.i.j.: A dropped fly ball does not “turn into a double.” Pitchers have to get outs. That’s like complaining that ball 3 on a 2-2 count becomes a hit when a guy hits the next pitch. It’s not an argument.
Stop griping about “bad calls.” They got beat.

DOCtober. Hahahahaha

H2O. hahahaha. What a fraud of a pitching staff. My money says Hamels will “just want it to be over” again when the World F-ing champs start on their wooping boy again.

I think we need a support group for all of these angry, spitful fans. It cannot be good for your health. Just sayin’
So the game was sad, but I got some nice photos…Trying to look on the bright side :O)
