Polanco Scheduled for Surgery

polanco smiles.jpgPlacido Polanco is getting his left elbow repaired Friday.

He played through pain much of the season because of bone fragments and tendinitis in the elbow. He had four cortisone injections during the year to keep him on the field, although he spent June 29 – July 16 on the 15-day disabled list.

Team physician Michael Ciccotti will perform the surgery. He will remove bone fragments from the elbow and repair Polanco’s extensor tendon.

“The recovery time for this procedure is typically eight to 10 weeks and we fully expect Placido to be ready by spring training, but we’ll know more after the surgery,” Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement.

Polanco hit .298 with six home runs and 52 RBIs in 554 at-bats this season. He signed a three-year, $18 million contract before this season.

Thank you Polly for going above and beyond the call of duty. Get that elbow fixed and ready for spring training. Can’t wait to see what you can do 100% healthy. Look out MLB!

At first blush it seemed the re-signing of Placido might have fallen into the category of another of Junior’s bone-headed moves as to both duration and cost. So far Placido has kept Junior’s bacon out of the fire on his signing. Despite playing hurt, his season was productive offensively and stellar defensively. His offense was good enough so as not to hurt him when it comes to GG consideration. I know GG is a defensive award but we all know how that works.

I thought “GG” was Greg Gross………Gold Glove?

Man, Cliff was slaughtered last night. He had no control of most of his primary pitches. Too many of them ended up in the Nitrozone. He is so good that he made it through 4 and 2/3 innings before being taken out. I think if Washington hadn’t taken him out, he would’ve gotten out of that inning himself. Yankee fans are probably wondering where that Texas team was during the ALCS…..
