Roy Halladay is the unanimous 2010 National League Cy Young Award winner.

There were 32 votes cast (two votes in each NL city), and Halladay received all 32 first-place votes. He is the 13th unanimous NL winner, receiving a perfect 224 points (seven points for first place, four for second, three for third, two for fourth and one for fifth). The BBWAA expanded the Cy Young Award ballot from three to five pitchers this year.

Halladay is the fifth pitcher in baseball history to win Cy Young awards in both leagues, joining Gaylord Perry, Pedro Martinez, Randy Johnson and Roger Clemens. Halladay previously won the 2003 American League Cy Young with the Toronto Blue Jays.

Halladay also is the fourth pitcher in Phillies history to win the award, joining Steve Carlton (1972, 1977, 1980, 1982), John Denny (1983) and Steve Bedrosian (1987).

Halladay went 21-10 with a 2.44 ERA in 33 starts this season. He led the league in wins, complete games (nine), shutouts (four) and innings pitched (250 2/3) and finished second in strikeouts (219). He also became just the 20th pitcher in baseball history to throw a perfect game, when he threw one May 29 against the Florida Marlins at Sun Life Stadium.

Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright (20-11, 2.42 ERA) finished second with 122 points with 28 second-place votes, three third-place votes and one fifth-place vote. Rockies right-hander Ubaldo Jimenez (19-8, 2.88 ERA) took third with 90 points. Halladay, Wainwright and Jimenez were the only pitchers named on all the ballots.

Unanimous winners in NL: Sandy Koufax (three times), Greg Maddux (twice), Johnson, Bob Gibson, Carlton, Rick Sutcliffe, Dwight Gooden, Orel Hershiser and Jake Peavy.

Roy Oswalt finished sixth. He received one third-place vote, three fourth-place votes and five fifth-place votes. Former Phillies pitcher Brett Myers finished 10th. He got one fourth-place vote.

norma, the only question was whether it would be unanimous.

Congratulations, Doc! Next up, a big fat WS ring.

Was there any doubt?! And I heard, *unanamously*!

Congratulations to DOC! He’s not only the best pitcher in baseball but he’s also the best man to step on a pitcher’s mound. Quality through and though……The only thing that makes me happier is knowing that we will have this guy for at least three more years…..hopefully four more :o)

Who cares? What happened to the WS ring?
