Opening Day 2011

Good news: It has stopped snowing. Bad news: It still feels like football weather.

But I have seen worse weather on Opening Day. Anybody remember the first opener at Citizens Bank Park in 2004? Awful weather. Quick trivia questions: Who hit the first home run at the Bank? Who had the first stolen base? (No cheating.)

Here are today’s starting lineups:

HOUSTON

  2. Angel Sanchez, SS
  3. Hunter Pence, RF
  4. Carlos Lee, LF
  5. Bill Hall, 2B
  6. Chris Johnson, 3B
  7. Brett Wallace, 1B
  8. Humberto Quintero, C
  9. Brett Myers, P

PHILLIES

I’ll go with chalk on this one – Pat Burrell and Jimmy Rollins?

First Home Run Bobby Abreu
First Stolen Base Marlon Byrd

I was there- it was cold, cloudy, and damp. The team’s play that day didn’t do much to brighten things up either. I believe someone on the Reds hit the first four-bagger but I think J-Roll did get the first stolen base.

I believe Abreau hit the 1st HR during the on deck series.

Thome hit the first HR

I was there in section 412 freezing my but off. I still have the blanket I bought for wind shelter that day! :)

Was that the same kid who “hexed” Broxton last year, who put a “hex” on Lyon in today’s game? Someone get a fund started to take this kid to every Phillies game!

Justin: The hex only worked because Lyon stinks. That’s why all “hexes” work. He was probably doing the same thing to Myers.

Abreu hit the first “regular season” home run, which is the only one I’m counting or the record books count. Marlon Byrd got the first stolen base.

I was so relieved to see the hex kid back. Wondered where he was.

The “hex” boy who hexed Broxton is one of the featured fans in this month’s Philadelphia magazine with Cliff Lee on the cover. It’s very cool!
