Victorino’s Thumb Problem

Shane Victorino is headed to Philadelphia to see hand specialist Randall Culp.

He is expected to rejoin the team tomorrow in Florida.

Victorino jammed his right thumb when taking a bad fall in center field Sunday in Toronto. Victorino had the thumb in a sleeve yesterday. He said he thought it would be OK, but Charlie Manuel said after last night’s game Victorino would not be able to play tonight.

The Phillies recalled John Mayberry Jr. Expect to see him in center field tonight. The Phillies optioned Vance Worley following last night’s game, so the Phillies had an open spot on the roster.

More to come later today at the ballpark …

Ought to keep his thumb from places it doesn’t belong

I stopped voting for Shane to get in the all star game …stay home and rehab the thumb.
Wish Polanco would do the same

Same here, jimmymack. I’m ok with Polly staying in. I don’t think there’s any rules that say the starting line-up has to stay in a certain number of innings. Give him two at-bats, max.

Totally ridiculous. Mayberry is up but, not only is Martinex playing CF, he is batting second. Polanco is sitting and Valdez is batting eighth.

Martinez is the only starter without a hit tonight. And they’ve moved him to second to give Utley a rest, and is showing how poor his fundamentals are. He just got lucky on a flat-footed throw to first.
Ruben, he’s not a 20-21 year old prospect. He’s an old dog who probably won’t learn any new tricks.

There’s a 3-RBI triple for Martinez. You should wait until the game is over before griping. Or, are you going to complain that it was a meaningless 3 runs at the end of a rout?

Polanco asked out of the game because of his back. He’s 0 for his last 15 but still intends to play in the All-Important All-Star game.
According to the TV guys, Mayberry didn’t arrive until batting practice and Charlie liked Martinez because of the RH pitcher. If you’re going to get your knickers in a twist over Martinez or Mayberry, you really need to develop a hobby or something to take your mind off of it.

I don’t have any issue with piling on runs, muleman. The more the merrier. And I don’t know you but I will suggest that even you could have hit that pitch. For some reason Sanchez gave in and threw him a 1-2 meatball down the middle of the plate after making him look silly with breaking stuff. At least now we know he can hit a batting practice pitch.

Every silver cloud has a dark lining, eh?

1-6 and batting .189? You see anything shiny in that, good for you.

It was certainly good to see Ibanez get a hit in a big spot. That two out hit after they walked Howard was huge and led to a five-run inning. With Hamels on the mound, the game was essentially over.

Mayberry is better than Martinez who cares he got lucky to hit a triple hes still batting under 200 and we are in July
