Victorino Only Player Suspended in Friday’s Brawl
Here’s the release from MLB regarding Friday’s bench-clearing brawl between the Phillies and Giants:
Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Shane Victorino has received a three-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for his actions in the top of the sixth inning of his Club’s Friday, August 5th game against the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park. Joe Garagiola Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards and On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.
Victorino’s aggressive actions prolonged the bench-clearing incident between the Clubs. His suspension had been scheduled to begin tonight, when the Phillies are to play the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium. However, he has elected to appeal. Thus, the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
In addition, undisclosed fines have been issued to Phillies thirdbaseman Placido Polanco, Giants pitcher Ramon Ramirez and Giants catcher Eli Whiteside for their roles in the incident.
