Phillies Agree to Terms with Greene

The Phillies have agreed to terms with top draft pick Larry Greene.

MLB.com confirmed he received a $1 million signing bonus. The agreement came late last night.

Greene, 18, hit .562 with 11 doubles, one triple, 19 home runs, 52 RBIs, 58 runs scored and 13 stolen bases this season for Berrien County High School in Nashville, Ga. Greene, an outfielder listed at 6-foot-1 and 225 pounds, earned a football scholarship to Alabama.

Second-round pick Roman Quinn remains unsigned, but the Phillies are hopeful they can reach an agreement with the shortstop before tonight’s midnight deadline.

Another left-handed power bat. Big dude. Good signing I guess, as he had options.

Kinda love the Phils picking up folks off the “scrap heap”. Certainly can’t hurt down the stretch. Nice to have the local angle (Bush)too.

I don’t know what other options Greene had but he should get a good signing bonus being the 39th pick. And with the expiration of the CBA at the end of the year, who knows what he would have gotten in a few years even if he went higher at that time. The same thing with the 2nd round pick, Roman Quinn.
