Hamels to the DL
The Phillies placed Cole Hamels on the 15-day disabled list with left shoulder inflammation.
Reason to panic?
It doesn’t seem to be, although we’ll learn more later. The move is retroactive to Aug. 13 and the Phillies said Hamels is scheduled to start Monday against the Reds in Cincinnati. He had been scheduled to pitch Friday. So the fact Hamels is scheduled to pitch Monday leads me to believe they made the move because Raul Ibanez is hurting (sore left groin) and there is some uncertainty surrounding Placido Polanco‘s health (sports hernia), even though Polanco said he felt fine last night. The Phillies essentially have been playing a man short, so they probably figured they could add a guy through the weekend and activate Hamels later.
The Phillies recalled Pete Orr to take Hamels’ palce.

They are not managing to win games right now…they are managing to win them in the postseason. That has been obvious for the past few weeks. After last year’s debacle, who can blame them?
“Palce?” Way out in the open like that in such a brief piece? Why accept such sloppy standards for yourself man…? A lot of people would love to write about the Phillies for a living and would probably take their work much more seriously.
But wouldn’t be taken as seriously by those who read their work……
Yep…earthquake centered in VA south of DC… felt along the the miAtlantic up to Mass.. John
Better to play it safe. Get everybody healthy and ready for October. I wouldn’t mind seeing Utley and Howard start getting some days off ove rthe next few weeks, too.
REST=RUST

Hey Pat G, go eat a schlong.
This is slightly procedural. They are short a player for a couple days with Ibanez hurting, although I don’t know how mch help Orr will be. What about Brandon Moss? At least he is showing a little power at LV and he bats left. Gotta be better than Gload at this point.
If they hold Hamels back past Monday, I’ll worry then.
If Cole is going to be rested, now is as good a time as any. He has pitched a lot of innings over the past few years. Let him rest up for a few weeks and then come back ready to make a push to the WSC.
