Hurricane Irene Moves Sunday’s Game to Saturday

The Phillies have made plans for Hurricane Irene.

They moved Sunday afternoon’s game against the Florida Marlins to 1:05 p.m. Saturday as part of a day-night doubleheader at Citizens Bank Park. Tickets for Sunday’s game will be honored for Saturday afternoon’s game. The Cliff Lee gym bag giveaway, which had been scheduled for Sunday, also will be moved to Saturday afternoon.

Gates will open at 11:05 a.m. for the 1:05 p.m. game.

Saturday night’s game will remain at 7:05 p.m. Gates will open at 6:05 p.m. for the night game.

Roy Halladay will pitch Game 1 of the doubleheader. He will face Anibal Sanchez. Cliff Lee will pitch Game 2. The Marlins have night announced their starter for the night game.

That’s a nice idea, but there will still be rain for the Saturday night game. My cynical side says that they don’t want to lose the parking and concessions money for Sunday’s game.
They’ll win the division by so many games that they would never have had to make up the game.

Todd, has this even been done before, rescheduling a game due to weather days before the game is set to play? The pre-emptive strike seems like an unusual move.

People nomrllay pay me for this and you are giving it away!

The Marlins moved their game with the Reds from today to yesterday because of this storm. This happens a few times each year. I think the Phils have even done it. BTW, nice touch with the Irene Ryan pic.🙂

I think all you phans who is going to the first game should find a place to hide after the game ends until the second game starts. You will have to stand, but how many times in your life will you have a chance to see the likes of Roy Halladay and Cliff Lee pitch on the same day????? Do whatever you have to! Hide in a toilet stall! Hang from the lights! Crawl between the tarp and the fence!

Or just buy tickets to both games, Erich…

I have a feeling I won’t be going to that 2nd game.

I have a feeling you might not be going to the first game either. The rain is due to start around 9:00am.

When was the last time the Phils had two consecutive games rained out in the regular season. In ’08, they had the WS delayed for a couple of days, but they ended up continuing that game. This Irene must be the Mother of all hurricanes…..

They had 2 consecutive rainouts in April of 2007. Played the Mets on April 17 after 2 straight.
That’s the one I could find with a quick web search.

Irene may be the mother of all storms. It’s as big as Europe with 100mph winds. It’s going to dump about a foot of rain on us with sustained 70+mph winds. Our shore areas could have their geography changed. There’s a very small chance it will track far enough east to limit the damage.

70mph winds here, 100 at the shore.

Be prepared for a lot of loss of power. The ground is so saturated from all the recent rain that 50-70 MPH winds will be knocking down a lot of trees, hence wires.

Jimmy could be out for a month. The Phils will have to play 33 games over the last 31 days of the regular season without a day off. Of course, they will have 15 more players on their roster from September 1st, but I’m afraid that the bats will flare out when the postseason begins like they did last year. Those guys looked so worn out in the NLCS that it shouldn’t have been a surprise to us that they lost without giving much of a fight. I just don’t want to see a repeat of that this year….

They hit something like .215 in the post season last year. This team hasn’t shown the kind of protracted slump that the 2010 team did in May and later in the season. We haven’t seen any evidence of the bats “flaring out” yet. Only great pitching can make that happen.

32 games in 30 days. Hopefully, the last ten or so won’t matter.

Yeah, I envision those last two weeks with the regulars alternating days off, at least one would hope.

Outstanding submit. I used to be checking frequently that blog page with this particular prompted! Useful details especially the shutting phase🙂 My partner and i cope with similarly info very much. I used to be interested in this specific info for many years. Thanks a lot plus all the best ..
