The Magic Number Keeps Dropping

Got some magic numbers for you:

  • Clinch a postseason berth: 2.
  • Clinch fifth consecutive National League East championship: 7.
  • Clinch home-field advantage throughout postseason: 8.

Talk about a bad week for the Brewers. They no longer have the second-best record in the league (Arizona does), which means if the season ended today they would play the Phillies in the NLDS. The Phillies have won six consecutive games against the Braves and Brewers and took 2 of 3 from Arizona at home in August (and that one loss came when Roy Halladay blew the only ninth-inning lead of his career). Not sure anybody wants to play the Phillies right now.

Carlos Ruiz is one tough dude. When Buster Posey broke his ankle during a collision at the plate earlier this season, folks asked him if he thought the rules should be changed to protect the catcher. He said no. If you play the position you have to love everything about the position. And that includes getting your body crushed on a play at the plate.

There was nothing cheap about what McGehee did; part of the game. Unlike Posey, Ruiz got himself in good position to absorb the collision at home plate.

Who said it was cheap?

It was cheap, and you know it.

Then go back to watching T-ball and leave baseball and other sports to men.

No Todd, the Braves would not play the Phillies in the NLDS. It is impossible for them to. The Wild Card cannot face their own divisional foe in the LDS round. The D-Backs having the 2nd best record only means they do not have to face the Phillies in the NLDS.

Read much Chewy? He’s talking about the Brewers, not the Braves. I’m pretty sure Todd knows that the Phillies can’t play the Braves in the NLDS.

Wow don’t I feel like an arse. Swear that said Braves before. I blame my gf whose a Braves fan cause she was just complaining about their bad week. No excuses though, I was being an idiot. That’ll teach me to read more carefully next time.

Easy mistake, Chewy. The Braves had a bad week too.
