10 Mas

A few notes from tonight’s 11-6 victory over the Cardinals in Game 1 of the NLDS:

  • Roy Halladay is 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA in four postseason starts. He retired 21 consecutive batters to finish the game.
  • Ryan Howard and Shane Victorino could make a friendly postseason wager. Howard passed Victorino as the franchise’s all-time postseason RBI leader with 31. Victorino has 30. Howard had no homers and no RBIs in last year’s postseason, so it’s good for him to put those questions behind him.
  • Raul Ibanez had big homer in the sixth. He hit .245 with 20 homers and 84 RBIs this season. Let’s pose this question: Would you bring back Ibanez on a one-year deal next season? Or are you comfortable enough with Domonic Brown and John Mayberry Jr. in left field in 2012? Something to think about.
  • The Phillies are 15-7 in Game 1s.
  • The Phillies tied a postseason record with 14 hits. They had 14 in the Game 2 of the 1980 NLCS, Game 3 of the 1980 World Series and Game 4 of the 1993 World Series.
  • Mike Stutes was frustrated with his effort tonight. He said he wasn’t as aggressive as he normally is. He expects that to change the next time he pitches.
  • Carlos Ruiz wrote “10 mas” on the dry erase board in the center of the Phillies clubhouse. Of course, “10 mas” translates to 10 more. I’m sure you can figure out what that means.

Dom browne isn’t phillie material. Raul comes back, one year less pay and more of a part time role. Browne is trade bait for reliever.

It’s Brown. If you’re going to hate on a guy, at least have the courtesy to spell his name correctly.

Domonic Brown had his shot (more than one) and blew it. Even when he got hits they didn’t really matter. Mayberry, on the other hand, always seemed to have important hits. He won the first game of the season with a clutch hit! Definitely bring back Raul for a year or two, and platoon him with Mayberry until Mayberry is comfortable with righties.

Everyone thought I has lost my mind when I was calling for one more year for Raul earlier. Then he jacks one and everyone loves him again. Poor Raul. Look, we all know his career is winding down, but I think he can help while we sort out left field.

No problem with bringing back Ibanez on a 1 year deal and platoon him with Mayberry. At Raul’s age, hard to believe another team would offer a longer deal at big bucks. He has very nice niche here with a legit shot to play in WS three consecutive years.

Hank-SJ….I totally agree with you. I’ve been saying this for a while. As long as he platoons with Mayberry, he can definitely still contribute!

Ah,hem…..What about Chase’s 3 hits, 2 for doubles, and 3 runs scored. Not too shabby, considering the funk he’s been in all season.

People writing off Brown are wrong. I’m not saying that he is definitely going to become the great player he was hyped up to be, but not every player comes up to the bigs and tears it up immediately. Some need time to adjust. Mike Shmidt hit .190 his rookie year. And don’t forget that Brown hit over .300 in the month of July just before being sent down.

The bottom line is Brown is still a kid, he needs time to adjust to the majors. He doesn’t have a big enough body of work to write him off yet. Let Ibanez walk and platoon Brown and Mayberry Jr. next season.

Let Raul play out his career here in Philly. He’s streaky but utterly amazing and productive when he’s on. JMJ is fabulous and I love him down the road for a regular in left field. Brown is iffy; my motto watching the game tonight, after the bobble of the foul ball hit by Shane was ‘don’t look a gift horse in the mouth’. Brown has not capitalized on the gifts he’s been given and it’s time to cut him loose and trade him for some bullpen support.

Raul has played out his career here in Philly. He’s toast after the playoffs. Don’t need him, nor his “reduced” salary. I’m very comfortable with Browne and Mayberry platooning in LF making under 1 million between them and using the leftover cash to sign Hammels (Arbi) Rollins (FA) Madson (FA) and a RP who can hold down the 8th. Money talks so Raul walks

Raul will retire on top after the Phils win the World Series this month. It’s all about Mayberry and Brown competing for the job next year. If they both do well- it’s an awesome platoon.

Love Raul. Hope he stays in Philly – either platooning with JMJ or if he retires as a player the Phils need to hire him for some front office or coaching job. He’s a total class act and a real asset to the team!

It was a surly ballpark before Howard’s HR. The 3-run first put us in a horrible frame of mind. Then Doc settled in and Lohse was … Lohse. His ERA doubles in the 6th inning.
They can’t let the Cardinals win a game here and go back to STL with their best pitchers. We’ll see what Carpenter has on 3-days rest.

Halladay was masterful. I admit to being heartbroken/angry when he gave up the 3-run HR to Berkman coupled with the Phils lifeless bats through 5. With Lee’s postseason track record, I’m not too concerned from a pitching standpoint. I think the bit of rest the top of the order has gotten of late may have helped. I hope that last night’s offensive performance is just a tip of the iceberg.

Chooch is the best. When Howard hit his HR there’s a shot of Chooch on the railing in full gear cheering his heart out and one of the first to congratulate Howard when he came off the field. Also thought Howard’s curtain call was classy.

I think Chooch should wear the Pence socks again! They brought him good luck the other night🙂

Why is Dom Brown a topic of conversation? Really, I’ll worry about what happens in left field next year…next year.
Phocus, phans!

F’s are OK. Everything doesn’t have to be “ph.” Relax.
