Charlie Talks About His Favorite Squirrel Song

It seems like the Phillies are pretty loose before Game 5, including Charlie Manuel, who held a news conference a few minutes ago.

Question: As someone who also grew up hunting squirrels, have you requested any squirrel proofing of the park for tomorrow, and are you afraid of a squirrel curse?

Answer: No, not at all.  Like I’ve seen squirrels a lot in different ballparks besides St. Louis, of course, but at the same time the squirrel over there was a little bit different.  There is a country western song about a squirrel, like getting in this church on a Sunday, and that’s kind of funny.  I’m trying to think about ‑‑ (Ray) Stevens sings it, sure does.  Same guy that sang The Streak and all those songs, yeah, gotcha.

Here’s that song, if you’re wondering what exactly he’s talking about.

As much as the offense has disappeared since the 2nd inning of game 2, the outcome of this series still depends on the starting pitching. Very disappointed in Lee’s and Oswalt’s performances. The FO spent the money for pitchers and it’s up to them to deliver.

The Phils lack of patience at the plate has been frustrating to watch. In an earlier thread, someone mentioned Valdez for Polly. 2 games ago I would have said that was lunacy. But, Polly’s hurt and can’t hit. If he does get a rare hit, it’s a single. The bottom of the lineup has been a black hole this entire series. Charlie doesn’t have many options, but if the Phils find themselves down in the 6 or 7th, I think you gotta bring in someone who might be able to get a better swing than Polly is right now. Ruiz could go 0 for the series and I still wouldn’t advocate bringing Schneider in. Ruiz’s defense is vastly superior (although I have questioned some of the pitch selections in this series).

oh my god. Can we stop with the “disappointment”. We have been spoiled by great baseball for the last few years. We have lost games before. We have been here before and won. We lost in St. Louis. Can’t do anything about it, but play your heart out in Game 5 infront of the best fans in the world. Let’s go Phillies!!!!!!!!
