Injury Updates on Howard, Pence, Polanco, Hamels

This is from a Phillies press release:

The Phillies have announced the following injury updates:

  • First baseman Ryan Howard’s MRI revealed a rupture of the left Achilles tendon.  He cannot have surgery until the swelling resolves and it has not been determined who will perform the surgery.  Recovery time won’t be known until after the surgery is complete and there is no guarantee he will be ready for spring training.
  • First baseman Ross Gload will have his right hip re-examined by Dr. Bryan Kelly.  Gload will likely have arthroscopic hip surgery.
  • Right fielder Hunter Pence and second baseman Placido Polanco will both have MRIs to evaluate the extent of their sports hernias.  Polanco will likely have surgery and Pence’s plan will be determined following the MRI.
  • Left-hander Cole Hamels will have loose bodies removed from his left elbow on October 14.  He also has an inguinal hernia and surgery for that is scheduled for a week later.

Holy Ravioli we will be fielding a AAA team next season..

I’ve had a sports hernia; it doesn’t take more than 3 months to heal absolute maximum(and I’m being generous). I know Polanco has been dealing with his for months, but really hope this isn’t the Phillies excuse for losing… As a Braves fan, I’ve seen more than my fair share of injuries cripple a team, and the Phillies weren’t crippled; they just happened to play bad for one really really important series.

Dude theres a difference between an average joe recovering from a sports hernia and a world class athlete recovering from a sports hernia. They exert their bodies in many ways that others don’t.

Also, no one on this post said anything about blaming the loss on injuries. No one said anything comparing or contrasting it to the Braves injuries. So I have no idea why you feel the need to suggest either.

Seems to be a lot of your problem with my post is self inflicted. “Dude theres a difference between an average joe recovering from a sports hernia and a world class athlete recovering from a sports hernia. They exert their bodies in many ways that others don’t.” I was a full time athlete when I had mine. And you’re right; word class athletes get paid millions of dollars and have some of the best doctors, surgeons, and physical therapists available. They should have no recovery problems most of the time. No hernia therapy lasts the 6 months until Spring Training. “Also, no one on this post said anything about blaming the loss on injuries.” I never said they did? I said “I hope”. You always hear about when a player is injured. Always. No one hides an injury, and an injury usually isn’t hidden in a media market like Philly has. Raises an eyebrow at least when they wait until they lose in the playoffs to mention it. “No one said anything comparing or contrasting it to the Braves injuries.” I know? I made the comparison not out of some way to put down Philly, if anything, I complimented them. “So I have no idea why you feel the need to suggest either.” I have no idea why you can’t expand your though process a bit to answer these simple questions yourself.

Sound like you are the one making excuses for the Braves being losers.

The bottom line is that the Braves didn’t need an orthopedic surgeon. They needed a sports shrink.

Still kind of wondering when this became about the Braves… I used a simple comparison. I could have said the 2010 Red Sox or the 2009 Mets, either way, my point stands; the Phillies didn’t lose because of injury, they lost because they played bad. And no, I am not insinuating that Philly is a bad team in any way shape or form. “Sound like you are the one making excuses for the Braves being losers.” I mention that the Braves are hurt a lot(which is so fucking true that it would probably hurt someone to lie about it) and I’m making excuses? Like I’ve said before, I have no delusions of grandeur. I am not the team, I do not have to make excuses for anything. The Braves didn’t go to the playoffs because they played bad; the Phillies didn’t advance because they played bad. Sounds like someones just bitter that the 2 years worth of shit talking on Bowmans Blog hasn’t resulted in a World Series yet. Because, as you know, division titles mean nothing when you don’t have more than 1 World Series.

Braves fans would know. 14 years worth.

A professional sports record.

The Philly blog is like a schoolyard. You guys crack me up. Phan(s), you bring it on yourselves.

Do you think that the Phillies will bring up rizzotti to play first base.

Rizzotti is nowhere near a MLB player. I expect Mayberry to be the first baseman, with a free agent pickup who can play multiple positions filling in some. Maybe even Ross Gload if his surgery goes well. They will have a lot of runs to replace.
