Utley Leaves Camp, Knees Remain Issue

This isn’t good news:

Ruben Amaro Jr. released the following statement this morning regarding Chase Utley.

“Chase’s rehab process has come to a bit of a plateau. He has made some strides but not enough to take the field. He is headed out of town for a few days to be evaluated by a specialist that has helped athletes overcome his issue. We anticipate that this trip will allow him to build on what he has already done with Scott Sheridan in order to get over the hump. He wants more than anything to be on the field with his teammates and we believe that this is a step in that direction.”

Amaro had more to say later. Read the story HERE.

Jim Salisbury and I co-authored the book The Rotation, which is now available. Check it out here!

Mondays suck already, this just adds to my misery

Do we know anything about the specialist…..what area of expertise?

From csnphilly.com: Utley is due back in camp Thursday. Citing the player’s privacy, Amaro would not name the specialist that he had gone to see. Amaro said Utley was not leaving the country and he indicated that Utley’s condition is being treated with stretching and alignment exercises, not a procedure.

RAJ is taking lessons from Andy Reid. This says nothing other than what we already know. Bummer none the less.

well lets hope Freddy Galvis can hit in the big leagues

I just really feel like this may be the make or break year for this team. Too many old players who are seemingly incapable of staying healthy. The team needs to get younger, and 2nd and 3rd base are a good place to start. Also, as far as I can see, they have not fixed their issues of clutch hitting (or lack thereof). In 08 and 09 they got a hit or a walk when they needed it to keep the inning alive. That has been a recurring problem in 10 and 11. Of course, it is hard to fix that problem …….

Matt Gelb is reporting that Utley’s left knee is now bothering him worse than the right knee.
How much more will we see of Chase? A once Hall-of-Fame caliber career has come crashing down.

I think it may be time for Chase to just retire and let us see what the Freddy Gavis can do at 2nd base. I really don’t think at this point, he is going to be of much use to us as much as I hate to say this.

uh oh utley. dont you just hate when that happens?

Glad to see this makes you so “chipper”. billreef.

Enjoy this part of the season Billy Boy. You know, the part where the Braves look like the best team in baseball. The part before the next historic collapse….

Gee Billreef is back! Oh joy?!

yeah, those braves look real healthy and dangerous. BTW, how do you spell CHOKE?

With this problem having been going on for two years, not to mention all winter and spring training so far, why wouldn’t he have gone to this specialist quite some time ago? People didn’t think it was serious or didn’t think they should apply the best options on it as soon as possible? If this was a real company, withholding resources from a valuable asset would get someone fired.

Actually, this development makes BillyBobReefer more “Larry” rather than more “Chipper”.
