No Love for Chooch
MLB released its first All-Star voting update and Carlos Ruiz ranks fourth among NL catchers.
Fourth.
- Yadier Molina, Cardinals: 1,100,048
- Buster Posey, Giants: 1,072,464
- Brian McCann, Braves: 707,508
- Carlos Ruiz, Phillies: 562,021
Ruiz is hitting .368 with a .416 on-base percentage, .600 slugging percentage and a 1.016 OPS. Ruiz is just short of plate appearances to qualify, but if he had enough he would lead the majors in hitting, rank fifth in on-base percentage, sixth in slugging and fifth in OPS.
That’s among every player in baseball, not just NL catchers.
I’m guessing the Phillies’ disappointing start to the season has caused some apathy among the fan base. I’m not necessarily surprised Ruiz isn’t leading. I’m just surprised he’s getting crushed, nearly 450,000 votes behind Molina.

He’ll still make the team. There’s no way LaRussa would keep him off the manager’s selection list and the players can vote him in as well

We need a collective effort this season to rally behind Chooch.
This is why the all star voting is a joke. Molina is always the favorite because the uneducated fans know nothing but “OMG MOLINA IS THE BEST CATCHER EVERRR”. Carlos Ruiz is CLEARLY is the best catcher in baseball right now, not even just the NL, and this is just a disgrace to see Molina with 440k more votes. Take the fans out of the voting process and make it the best player available at that time at each position. Molina can go take a bath that weekend and let Chooch enjoy his EARNED all star status
Either way he’ll make the team. First of all every team has to be represented (besides Chooch, only Cole even has a shot), second say what you will about LaRusa (I can’t stand the guy), but there’s no way he wouldn’t put Ruiz on the team based on the season he’s having.
Is LaRussa coming out of retirement to manage the All-Star team?

Papelbon has a very good chance at making the roster.
Explain to me how Buster Poser gets more recognition than Ruiz. Outside of pretty much number of games and number of ABs, Ruiz kills Poser in every other category. I mean come on people, it’s a no-brainer.
Come on everyone we got to get Chooch on the All Star team. With the season he is having he should be the starter. We need to rally around him. GO CHOOCH YOU ARE THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
