Players Option Five to Minor League Camp

Tyson Gillies, Alfredo AcevesThe Phillies optioned five players to Minor League camp this morning:

  • Right-hander Tyler Cloyd.
  • Right-hander B.J. Rosenberg.
  • Left-hander Mauricio Robles.
  • Outfielder Tyson Gillies.
  • Catcher Sebastain Valle.

The Phillies have 42 players in big-league camp (non-roster invitees in parenthesis): 20 pitchers (five), four catchers (two), 10 infielders (three) and eight outfielders (one).

Wasn’t Rosenberg projected to be in the bullpen by quite a few people?

No–no one–his odds of sticking were miniscule

I like Gillies athleticism, does he fit into the Phillies plans?

I think the headline is supposed to be “Phillies option 5” not “Players option 5”, unless they are playing some sort of weird Roster Survivor among the team this year.

So they have now sent out both Valle and Joseph. I guess this means that they are going to go with backups and minor league slop until Chooch gets back.

The way Joseph was playing in ST, he not only should have made the team, he should
be starting till’ Chooch returns

If anyone checked in on the wbc… Gillies struggled… he needed a compass and a road map when he went back on balls hit over his head… and I think the only hit he had was when he took down Alfredo Aceves in that melee.

Work hard in the minors boys and we’ll see you soon!
