Phillies to Watch Wilson Throw This Week

Brian WilsonA strong performance this week in St. Louis and Detroit and the Phillies could be buyers before the July 31 Trade Deadline.

A poor performance and they seem likely to sell.

But they still believe they have a chance to make the postseason, which is why they will watch free agent relief pitcher Brian Wilson throw Thursday in Los Angeles. Wilson is 15 months removed from Tommy John surgery. He threw Monday for the Giants, but Thursday’s session is expected to include numerous teams looking for bullpen help.

The Phillies certainly are one of them. Their bullpen entered Tuesday’s series opener against the Cardinals at Busch Stadium with a 4.36 ERA, which is the third-worst mark in baseball.

Sign Wilson,Trade Papelbon (among others). Work on the future.

Couldn’t hurt.

Just make him shave the goofy beard. Not sure we can take BOTH that AND Papelbon’s “Blue Steel” schtick in the same bullpen. 🙂

Couldn’t we find someone older to sign? I’d prefer Moyer….he could at least teach the kids something and we wouldn’t have to sit through this guy’s antics and beard.

I am quitting the Phillies if they sign that dirty hippie.

Dirty hippie? Really? Do you watch Fox Noise or what?

Agree with Jay W. Are you freakin’ kidding me.

Between this nitwit and Frandsen’s pine tar helmet, I couldn’t watch another inning.

You guys must be running out of stuff to complain about if you’re bitching about pine tar on someone’s helmet. “God, I can’t possible watch baseball when this guy and his dirty helmet are plastered all over the screen! I’m so angry!”

REALLY can’t stand this guy and his antics! Hope we stay far away from him.

Not the worst thing they can do if they take the bait here…anything is better than sitting around hoping talent suddenly appears (or reappears) in your current roster or a fountain of youth is discovered. The only thing they should be buying this deadline is some land in the everglades, because if they believe adding to this core will push them forward then they are that foolish.

has NIX established a record for most consecutive strike outs as a pinch hitter. when is that senile old man going to say enough is enough. every time i see the letter a. next to his name i do not even bother to see the results, its a done deal.

Are you going to talk about Nix in every post?

Brian Wilson is a closer? How would he fit in? The state of the Phillies needs work. Last year with Pence and Victorino looked alot better than Revere and Mayberry who at best is a bench player. Revere has done well however his arm is weak, Brown is a rising star. The Phillies keep players in the minors too long, if Brice Harper was a Phillie he would be in double A. I say bring up the kids let them play, keep Chase I love his hussle and intensity. Complaining about Kevin Frandsons pine tar? I would take ten of him. Although unpopular trade Ruiz, Rollins and Doc. They need middle relievers, they some bats, Howard although has been productive after his big contract the last three years horrible, 10 home runs are you kidding me. I am a life long Phillie Fan, Connie Mack, The Vet and I still have a 17 Game plan even though I live in Florida. I will not dessert them!!!!!

i will stop as soon as someone tell me why he is still in a phillie uniform. they would have been better off keeping betencourt or josh fields. seriously, do you really think nix is an asset to the team, if you do you are on some great sht

Why are you talking about Nix in a post about Brian Wilson?

I just hope we are scouting Brian Wilson the pitcher and not Brian Wilson the Beach Boy. Can’t be too sure with this scouting department…….

probably the same scouts who brought us mcdonald, adams, qualls to name a few, not to mention my favorite philly of all time, whose name i will not post, just read some previous posts i made i you will know

Keep Ruin away from the checkbook. I can see Wilson as an ideal candidate for Ruin to sign to one of his standard lucrative contracts.
