Marquis Signed to Minor League Deal

Jason MarquisThe Phillies hope to have added depth to the organization today when they announced they signed right-hander Jason Marquis to a Minor League contract.

He will report tomorrow to Clearwater, Fla., for extended Spring Training.

Marquis went 9-5 with a 4.05 ERA in 20 starts last season with the Padres before having Tommy John surgery in July. He is 121-114 with a 4.56 ERA in 368 appearances (309 starts) over a 14-year big-league career.

The Phillies are short on starting pitching depth with Cliff Lee, Jonathan Pettibone and Miguel Alfredo Gonzalez each on the disabled list.

Ah, the Baseball Genius, Ruin Tomorrow, Jr., has blessed us again! with a 35-year-old Never Was who is less than a year off TJ surgery. Why send him to Clearwater? Bring him up now! We sure wouldn’t want to find out if any of the AAA kids have the stuff.

And really, TZ – you include MAG on the list that reflects why we are short on pitching? That guy is a NEVER WILL BE, and the onyl thing he makes us short on, is the cash that Genius gave him in a bidding war against himself.

And how appropriate that the “Related Links” on this story include the master strokes of the Chad Gaudin and Carlos Zambrano signings – aren’t we luck to have someone so Smart putting this roster together?

Paying attention to the Phillies, whether on the air, in print, or in person, has become a complete waste of time for any baseball fan. Thanks, Rube!

AGREE WHOLEHEARTEDLY!! Why is it no one else in the upper echelon cannot see what a MESS he has made of a World Series winning team? Amaro is probably upset he lost out on Manny Ramirez!
