Phillies Claim Williams Off Waivers

The Phillies today claimed right-hander Jerome Williams off waivers from the Rangers.

Williams, 32, went 2-5 with a 6.71 ERA in 28 games this season with Houston and Texas. He is 44-52 with a 4.51 ERA in nine big-league seasons with the Giants, Cubs, Nationals, Angels, Astros, Rangers.

The Phillies designed right-hander Sean O’Sullivan for assignment to make room for Williams on the 25-man roster. O’Sullivan had been scheduled to start Tuesday against the Angels in Anaheim. Williams presumably will take his place in the rotation, although it is unclear if he will start Tuesday.

Jerome Williams. 2-5 record. 6.71 ERA. Beautiful! Another washed up pitcher that we don’t need. Way to go, Ruben.
As a matter of fact, Ruben, read my lips: Outfielder. We need a quality outfielder. You know what an outfielder is, don’t you Ruben? You know, like those guys you got rid of: Jayson Werth, Shane Victorino, Pat Burrell, Raul Ibanez, Hunter Pence. The guys you thought were no good, not worthy of the Phillies uniform.

Finally, the piece we need for the wild card run.
This is insulting to the fan base to even take a flier on this guy and throw him into a game. Monty and Rube are basically giving us all the middle finger saying we don’t care what you think of our moves or what product we put on the field, as long as you are dumb enough to keep buying tickets.
Also, a nice testament to Rube, his scouts & advisors and minor league staff….we don’t have one freaking warm body we can call up to start a game that’s better than Williams.

“Inside the Phillies with beat writer Todd Zolecki”

And yet all we get is a regurgitated headline of the Phil’s newest acquisition. I’d at least think Todd would posit a scratching of the head on this deal. But no.
